I can't parse 26a but other than that, all done/

26 parses as 4 (water "barrier"), 1 (back in "grid")

A different type of Paul this. Usually I find them slow to start and much quicker once you get in. This was the opposite but some very clever clues representative of his style.

No idea how 27a parses at all.

Of course Jono. Thanks. I was looking for a short dummy in a long guzzled. I would consider guzzled to mean something slightly different but that's by the by. It's not a bad clue in fact.

21D seems like way is taken away from tale to leave 3 letters surrounding chicken. Have I parsed that correctly?

Stuck on final two in the NW.
1d Fastener put forward, we hear? (6) [ _ R _ O _ _ ]
12a Puzzled, as is wobbly? (6) [ _ _ _ E _ N ]

I can imagine a fastener that fits 1d but it doesn't sound to me like a 'put forward'.

for 12a I've resorted to the Qat wordfinder but haven't seen anything that fits the wordplay or def.
