Thanks for 007. I thought the definition was "make dedication". Nice clue.

Finished, sooner than usual and before reading this thread ... though I used Crossword Solver on, I think, 3 words.

FOI 11: leapt off the page with "Kant" and "criticised", though I don't know why I know that title
LOI: 1d, which confirmed my tentative12a. Used Crossword Solver with crossers from 8, 10, 16 and saw the light.

COD: yes, me too: 23a (and had jotted that down before reading the thread).

Took a while to get started beyond 11 and 5, but then made steady progress.

Hi judyg
Always best to give the clues, so that those who haven't got the puzzle might help.

9 is an awful "sounds like". The mountains in the east for France sound slightly like someone in a particular type of box.

7 is very difficult if you don't know either word - hard to give a hint. You need to take a T out of the name of a particular Italian poet to get a musical item that might turn up in an opera.

Your letters in 9a are correct. Think of box as in who sits in one in court. It’s a homophone of the French mountains.

The last letter of 7d is O. It’s the third letter of the second word of 14a, verb meaning to see or notice.

The answer to 9d is a poet who wrote Orlando Furioso, losing T for time. The answer means in the style of a song in an opera
