Well once again a pleasant surprise. My second answer was my PDM for 23ac, which dropped out of the ether for me. Then I was off. I agree with Rocky the lower half was easier than the top. And many of the clues were very straightforward. I hated the homophone at 9ac and still can't parse it, though I liked the other homophone. I managed to get the answers for 11ac and 3d without having to read Kant or Wordsworth and I didn't know the Italian poet for 7d. Google confirmed the answers. Just two words I didn't know - 7d and 13d, but on the whole much easier than last week, which was horrendous.

My FOI was 21ac after reading the hint here, LOI was 26d, though I still don't understand the use of "frenzy". Like everyone else I must grant COD to 23ac, but followed by 1d.

I may be back next week, but have a busy week-end clearing the kitchen and utility room for the decorators to start on the following Monday.

Seems like 23a is unanimous choice for COD so far. Can't recall ever seeing anything near such agreement!
[Cue 10 votes for other clues. :-) ]

roof, pangram means every letter of the alphabet appears somewhere in the grid.
Usually noticing two or more of [Q, X, Y, Z] is a nudge to consider a possible pangram.

Well, it seems I must be really missing out here. Pretty well everyone agrees that 23a is a beauty, but although solution is obviou it's the one and only clue that I haven't managed to parse. It is with great regret that I am resorting to seeking help, because obviously the beauty of a beautiful clue to a large extent comes from the sense of realisation on solving it, but I'm afraid I just have to. Help! (Please)

23a parses as a backward [(3,3), where the first 3 is a word and the second an acronym]. Defn. could be the first 3 words of the clue, though it could also be considered an &lit.

Micky, read your answer in reverse splitting it 3,3 and see if that helps.
