Thanks, rog and bren. Obscure. Having finally tracked down the term after your posts, it seems that it should not be a Vespa but rather a Harley. I suppose Vespa to tie in with the Italian, but still.

Sorry slightly miswritten - meant first 2 letters in solution are last letters of 3rd and 4th words in clue

11ac ... I interpret the last two letters as a joke diminutive? ... Which makes sense of the bike..

Convinced myself that was turning into a pangram, and of course it’s one letter short.

Agree 11 is saying that the 50 year old would not be the first five letter word if it was a Vespa he was riding. Only Collins seems to carry the definition.
