Thanks Geeker and edc. I don't think I've ever seen 'marten' used in isolation before, as it must be for the clue to work, (Possibly another reason to suspect a US setter this week?) Otherwise, though, I agree -- clever misdirection. I was lucky the definition was clear .. and that I'm a fan of the sport in which the answer is used, as writing it in (tentatively) helped me get 1D, rather than vice versa.

By the way, this week's Quiptic is almost indistinguishable from Everyman in terms of a challenge (and it has the reveal button!). Some excellent clues.

I thought that too, Phil. While I was doing the Quiptic I thought it was possibly trickier than the Everyman (which wouldn’t be for the first time), and was surprised to see that I completed it in a slightly quicker time. Really not much in it though.

Happy Sunday to you all from a regular lurker. I normally take most of the day (on and off) to fill as many in as I can, then come here in the evening to harvest hints to the ones I have left. But I'm all done on my own just after breakfast today. So it must have been on the less tricky end of the scale.
I have one eyebrow slightly raised at the 'Miss' element of 1D. Is it the verb form used, perhaps, for a poorly executed putt on the golf course? Or am I barking up the wrong lamppost?

I read “Miss” as in bungle (noun or verb) e.g. as you say, a shot on the golf course.

I wish I found this as easy as everyone else!😂

6 clues solved for me.

What kind of clue is 3a?

10a and 11a make no sense to me at all.
