44 Down Since being on little money, gets rise (6)

I have _S_E_E

I thought it might be ASCENT but that would make my 58 Across wrong

ASCENT looks right - AS (since) CENT (little money)
What is the crossing clue?

ASCENT is correct.
Crossing clue 58 is the businessmen found, e.g. on Savile Row.

Thanks. I'd got it since posting (I originally thought it was a reference to Mr. Hislop) but appreciate the reply.

67a King Brian’s tender no more? (5) I have -r-w- and assume it must be Crown but I don’t see the parse. Can anyone explain?

A CROWN used to be a coin, but no longer. (Half-a-crown lasted much longer). I don't see hwy Brian, though.

I was surprised that the featured quote came from a non-UK source.

Thanks, I’d forgotten about a crown as a coin. Brian is the Eye’s nickname for King Charles so CR is Charles Rex plus “own” is the parse.
