The message ‘grid’ is non-coincidentally two prime numbers, but there’s nothing to dictate in which direction it has to run.

Thanks, Will37. My problem is with the wordplay for the second half of the entry. Very happy with (and amused by) the definition.
I reckon that the wordplay points to a final letter that cannot fit.

rhsl - what’s your issue with the wordplay? The last four letters are an instruction to relate to the first two to give LP

Candledave, surely the first three letters of the answer are given by the first word of the clue. That leaves three letters...
