A quick solve today which is good as I still have some spring bulbs to plant and the sun is shining. My LOI was 12a which wasn’t hard but I often miss those types of ‘move a letter’ clues. I did get 7d fairly early by reverse engineering from 21a. I laughed at the dodgy homophone too!

A fun one with the only thing that held me up being 9d. It's an anagram but one letter off as far as I can see, unless there's some extra twist I'm missing?

Oh, I get it. I had mistaken 'is' for part of the anagram.

Can I ask for some advice please?

I have managed quite a bit of the left hand side of the crossword but I have NOTHING on the right side!

I have no idea how to read/interpret any of them.

How do you read 4a or 12a?

Hi Druh,

4a - is an alternate letters type of clue hinted at by "alternatively dropped" - definition of a common word for where "avians (have) protection"

12a - a word for 'sleeps' with the first letter moved to the end, hinted at by "cycling" gives you a word meaning "moves heavily" (as when walking)

Minor point, brendan - 12 the word is "sleep" rather than "sleeps".

Right, thanks Chris - I'm trying to have a bit to eat and do the EV, all while listening to the football 🫣

Thanks Druh, and I don't think you should be disheartened - you've managed to complete most of the LHS unaided which, just a few weeks ago, might have seemed out of reach:-)
