A pleasant solve with some good clues but some others with very dubious surface sense.
I have not made sense of the first three words "Shaking tail end" of the 7D clue "Shaking tail end, watch a lad fall in Vermont, for example (6)?".
(Despite, I think, solving the clue.)
And I was expecting a homophone indicator in those first three words, but I don't see one.
I also don't get how 19A "Ghastly duck penetrating — we need camouflage " works, although the answer is clear. What are the words after "Ghastly" trying to tell us? (This is a good example of a clue with little or no surface sense. As is 14D "Using reason, conciliate freely? That's not on!")
13A — a very sly use of "buff" here.
