Hi Plutocrat,
6d is an anagram of two words (one missing its last letter) all inside two single letters.

10a was my undoing, although the clueing was fair. A decent puzzle overall, but agree that the Enigmatist from earlier this week was a harder challenge and could also have been in the prize spot.

Unusually for me I finished this at my first attempt. Very enjoyable but leaves a hole in the rest of the day. Still it's a fine day so I'm off for a walk on the beach - not Chesil.

Not very hard, but enjoyable. I had heard of 10a from the Ravel opera, but never knew what it meant (is it a word in English?)
21 the famous Disney scene was rigged!
I would question "Chesil Beach" as an example in 1d, as It is joined to the land at each end. I have walked along it while doing the South West Coast Path - not a pleasant experience!
Also not happy that the "spirit" in 13d works as a word by itself - though it was my FOI.

As a Geography graduate I remember Chesil Beach as an excellent study piece. Because the pebbles are deposited along the bank based on their size because the current gets weaker as you go along, in theory you could work out where you are on the bank blindfold based on the size of the pebbles. I think that's how it went anyway. Long time ago now.

Just 10a and 8d to go. I have an answer for 8d but it doesn't parse at al other than sounding like a market. 10a I think must be a word I clearly don't know.

well spotted, rainman. Apparently 3,8 is also a card game - and 10 is the art of fortune telling through cards. Otherwise the actual solving hardly taxed the bain cells at all!

Aside from the unknown words a fairly straightforward but enjoyable puzzle. I really enjoy the way Brummie uses words to lead you down the wrong road. 20a being a fine example and probably my COD.
