I really enjoyed this puzzle and all completed except, 'adding a number where it would usually appear '. Does it mean just write the 2 digit number? Where exactly?

You put it in the top left hand corner of the first letter of the word which forms part of one of the thematic titles. That’s where a conventional clue number appears in a crossword grid, and indeed, if you number the entire grid, it appears exactly where it should.
