Could anyone please provide a hint for the 4th work (3,5,8)? Possibly I'm being blind but I can't see it (I believe it should be 6 cells)

Eider, to get the 'cryptic representation', break it up into 3,5, 4, 4...

Eider, it is 6 cells not already used (9 in total). Ignore the first 3 of 3,5,8 and split the 8 in half. That might tell you how the cryptic representation works.

Wiki tells me that the last work in which the protagonist appeared (as a minor character) was(4, 5, 5). I think that that work could be said to be cryptically represented in row 8, six cells starting at column 2. I assume that this is accidental since I have the correct number of cells without it?

It’s a very good spot, Ozzy, but I’m sure it’s unintentional! It would be odd to include just one of the works in which they appeared as a minor character, IMHO.

I spotted that one too Ozzy. It distracted me from the 3, 5, 8 one for a while.

Has anyone noticed that line 8 includes 6 cells which cryptically give sick heart river? But they are not needed to sum to 41 cells. Serendipity or what?
