'on' is the anagrind for 'harps' (followed by 2 letters of an old king).

Drxx, thanks - and yes, it was! I had wasted time with the (non-existent) stick earlier.

Sorry,Jogamel. I hope it's clear, clearer now?

Have got answers for about three quarters but have no idea how to get started on the grid ? Any kind person with a hint about where might be a good place to start. No long clues to work from which has often been the case . Thanks

Tricky with several of each length, but from memory there are eight 7 letter answers, and some of them intersect, which should limit the options

Another approach is to start at what would be 1a/d. There are six letters which begin 5 and 6 letter answers. But in only two of them the 5 letter answer ends in a letter which begins a 4 letter answer at 4d. And in one of them the 4 letter answer has a third letter that doesn’t end any answer. So that gives you a way in.

Aslac: I'd like to be able to help, but in my case I think it was blind luck.

I got started by looking at the rhexis/excite connection.

Equally the policy/Betsy angle could be a good starting point aslac. Good luck!
