Well I don't see who else the musician can be in 11d but I wouldn't describe him as R & B and I don't get the pun ?

Re 2d if you remove the Roman numeral for 99 from a word meaning thawed you get the answer (a word for performance). That is how I read it anyway!

The problem is that IC isn't the Roman numeral for 99. 99 is XCIX

Poetic licence by the setter perhaps? And people know C is the numeral for 100, that the Roman system puts the number to be subtracted in front of the one it is subtracted from, and that 100 less 1 is 99. So not unreasonable clueing? As you would struggle to find a word that had XCIX in order in…… let alone one that left you with another word when those letters were removed.
11d is a gem of a hidden when you think he sang from the bottom of my heart! I think quite a few of his hits were R&B.

It's not the first crossword that has used 99=IC, but It's still wrong. The subtracting number must be at least a tenth of the number it's subtracted from. The Romans wouldn't recognise IC as a number.
