A different setter or just my own difficulty on getting on the right wavelength?
Some devious definitions (1a & 7d) as well as some debateable ones (6a & 11d).
FOI 14D LOI 1D (not sure I've cracked it!) COD 12a
It is always the 4 letter ones in this grid that are the most troublesome though I did like 22d. I agree about 1d, I have an answer but there are other possibilities.
Yes, quite a different style today. Lots of clues involving puns. Had a grudging smile when I finally saw some of them.
My niggle is that in 1d, '99' is not what it needs to be for the clue to work.
Very good I thought, though I also raised an eyebrow at 99.
Some humorous touches like (s)quire.
The word for ‘absurd’ reminded me a of a sketch in Life of Brian…
I like your comment re 5d Jono.
I wasn’t optimistic after first scan but once I got into it I thought most were straight forward.
Although I have an answer I can’t see the parsing of 26a. Help please?
Me too with 26a. Not sure about 21d either.
The definition seems not quite right in 5d. I agree with mattorm about 99, but it does turn up quite often in crosswords.
I'll forgive a lot for 11d, though!
