Not quite there, but hopeful, and clearly one of the very best puzzles. Struggling to figure out how many “several” is. I know what the first 2 techniques are (though I’m not sure if those are variations, rather than identical). And no idea yet how many further techniques I need to apply beyond the first 2.

Do any bars get (re)moved?

Same place as me, gregwatsonuk. I'm astounded by the setting already, now I just need to figure out the final pieces.

I know what to do but not how to do it! Identifying the 4th - 7-letter - word of the final message has me stumped at present. Any hints?

greengage, have you applied the first message - this doesnt give you the message mentioned in preamble.

andyp, I've applied the first message as instructed, to get a second message, which when carried out gives the message referred to in the preamble. Maybe I should apply it to the unnumbered entry?

I am absolutely stumped by this. I have tried 3 different techniques to 29 the unclued entry, all to no avail. I have absolutely no idea as to unlock the message, so the towel is on the floor and the white flag is waving........................
