I thought that this was excellent and I will very much miss Dysart's puzzles. He's brought enormous joy to many people over the years.

I agree with twit at 67 that the bit above the deleted cells seems like a bit of a stretch. However I'm 99% sure that they are the correct three letters to delete.

I don't understand the shape despite jack aubrey's hint at 70.

I think I'll highlight the whole of the path despite the fact that the preamble seems to specify that only the killer should be highlighted. It just seems neater that way so I will assume that this was overlooked in the preamble.

My only loose end is at I cannot see the wordplay for 16d, which is frustrating. A gentle hint would be greatly appreciated as always.

If you mean 16a it’s a word for on and a word for Iris each missing a “learner”

Thank you, candledave. I did mean 16a and cannot believe that I didn't see it.

After further reflection I have concluded that the preamble is completely clear and I will follow the instruction exactly, leaving the entangled character un-highlighted. I do not think that this approach can be faulted.

Would appreciate any gentle nudge for 13A as I can't seem to find any words in the BRB that fit my letters...

Rwandanpassing, 13a. def. is 'festivities' - early Christian. "Rent' (3) is an opening.

13a is also not in under its own steam, it's in as a derivation of another related word, so you've got to be very careful if you're checking options manually in the BRB.

When I finally filled in the NE quadrant and found the question poser, I had to smile — having studied the drama in its original language some 55 years ago! All the elements to be found readily fell into place.
But like many here, I was frustrated by the problems highlighted (literally in some cases!) by so many here. How am I meant to erase three letters when one of them has already been highlighted?

No-one has sought help to parse 30d but it is the only clue that has baffled me. Anyone still awake to help before I rush out to the postbox by the light of super moon to catch the early post tomorrow?
