3 is (1,2) inside 3 (layer). Defn "set".

For 17, think of a star sign in the spring.
3 - last word is the definition and it’s a verb.
12 parses as (1,1,1) inserted into (3). Last two words are the definition. Again the first word is a verb for the purposes of parsing.

Ah! I had the wrong first two letters in 11. Thanks.

And sorry again, chrise - it didn’t help that earlier on I gave you the parsing of 11 rather than 12. I’m having a bad day!

Thanks all. How did I not see the anagram....

I've had a breed of horse for 17a for hours but can't see why. Where does baby fit?

You need ‘spring baby’ Havermonkey. Think astrology.

Thanks again, rogissimo. I did wonder how I could fit (5,4) into 12!
All done now. Can't say I enjoyed most of it, but 15 was very good.

I spent so long trying to think what a spring baby was. Got stuck on lambs and bunnies 🤣.

Just 22a left, will have a ponder. I have enjoyed this but it was tricky. Thanks for all the help.
