27 is a double definition, UK (capital) GK for the 2nd defn.

That was tough! Particularly the SW, where I'd never heard of 13, 14, 18d or 25, and lacked the GK for 27

Yes very tough. Bottom half now complete. I'm struggling to see how yard works in 15a assuming I have the right answer.

birder - yes correct. It might help to think of it as a 6-6 rather than a 12.

Rocky7 - the yard simply provides the last letter.

Then I think I have the wrong answer rogissimo. Which probably explains why I can't get 8d either.

birder, your crossers are correct. The first of the 2 definitions is a kitchen implement.

rocky 7 - definition is cross (as a verb). Cryptic fodder is a full reversal of yard and had dinner. Hope that helps.

I got nothing on the first pass which is always a worry but then it turned out OK - just needed to work through it slowly. I'm left with 1a and 4d (for which I assume I just don't have the classical knowledge). Could I have a very gentle clue for either of those? I've an idea for 1a but can't see the first word. Thanks!
