Thanks ChrisE, absolutely, as noted by others, the spelling of 24d is just plain wrong!

I can see that 21 requires a bit of special knowledge. For those of you unfamiliar with the reference, I don't know whether to sympathise or envy - one of the most distasteful stories of the last few years (among some very stiff competition!).

Rog@29, I agree the author would have eliminated any uncertainty

Biggus@32 I tend to agree and of course this clue would not be permissible in the Times

Had a feeling there was a theme, but excuse myself for not seeing it because I know absolutely nothing about the subject, which is an unfamiliar name.

Quite an enjoyable puzzle and more challenging than most of the recent Prizes. I (American) managed to navigate the UK GK, tough but not excessive by cryptic standards.

Well that was a slog. I found this tough more because I just don't think I'm on Brockwell's wavelength not because of any fault with the puzzle. But like others 21a did involve some very specific UK GK. Hopefully involving a prison sentence in the not too distant future.

I do like the theme but would not have noticed it but for this forum so thanks all for that.

FOI 6d. LOI 4d. COD 15d I think.

I like the theme, totally stumped on 21a. Can’t see past the five-letter word for poison the crossers seem to give.

Hi moonjets
One of the seven deadly sins with the last letter missing, then a pretty niche reference backwards, to mean poison as a verb.

Same issue I had. The last word is actually the definition. A verb. The lady is the very UK based part. Last four letters reversed.

Thanks both! Didn’t help that I had 13d wrong. Not doing at all well today…
