Helped that I spotted the theme early. No one’s mentioned it so I won’t say what it is!

Thanks to Dan

OK, I have finished. I liked LOI 4d!
"Insufficient" doesn't seem right in 9a; neither does "bum" in23d.

Your mentioning a theme prompted me to have another look. I then saw it pretty much immediately but I have absolutely no knowledge of it (except that it features in the title of a typically amusing and quirky song by HMHB) so have no idea how pervasive it is in the solutions.

Same here Rogissimo. I quick scan through the relevant wiki page suggests many references, but I’m no expert.

I now recall Brockwell’s debut puzzle (29,051) which was similar in thematic content.

I assume that the theme is 19a 18d, of which I have no knowledge. Tricky puzzle, but doable. Does it have to be international? I have no objection to UK-centric clues, but I am a Brit!

The four individuals involved are either hidden in solutions or in one case split across two lines, I think

Have I got 12d right? My answer has no Georgia!

I also had no knowledge of the theme, but Google verifies Ianwil's assumption. I wonder how solvers feel about inclusion of a theme that has little or no bearing on the solution?

Rocky7.
Given that 12d is a down clue, read "North of" as the beginning of your apparently missing reference.
