I had it with the bits the other way round - "might one take" after "a second", with the definition "handle" (slang). I don't see how "different fits in, though.

I think the answer is usually used as a term for a nickname or alias, ChrisE, hence “different”

I think it is a 2 letter abbreviation for a second and 6 letter word for might one take .

Fair enough. Chambers says “alias, nickname, or real name”. Collins says “the ….. of a person is their name, especially when they’ have changed it”.

I’m just suggesting a reason for “different” appearing in the clue. Feel free to suggest a better one!

I wonder if anyone can help me with the parsing of T. I get the 'turner', but not the bit 'gathered in' (presumably either letters 3-6 or 2-5.) Haven't seen any previous comments, which usually means it's obvious!

The turner is 4, around 2,2 - i.e. gathered
