Thanks jono. The "dandies" is rather dated usage. The word is used differently now. Perhaps there should have been some indication?

2d?

Thanks jono. I hadn't come across the "etymological incorrectness", and I used to teach it!

It isn't the etymology that's incorrect, but the theory that became incorrect long after the name was established. Brendan isn't using "etymology" correctly.

I wondered about that, chrise. I suppose one could say that, as a result of what we now know, the etymology is, with hindsight, incorrect, but it’s at the very least a bit of a stretch, I think.

The etymology is indisputable, rogissimo; it's the premise that turned out to be wrong. Poor clue. 20 and 25 are weak as well.

I did like 11, 5, and 13.

Kristi, you need to know a precise line from the play. It is often misquoted…

…actually, I think that is my favourite clue here.

I mean the etymology as applied to the thing we now know it to be, chrise. I don’t think it quite works though, so I do agree with you. But that’s subject to hearing Brendan’s case for the defence, of course!
