I’m surprised there’s not more discussion of which answer to enter at 2d, as both parts of the clue have potential homophone indicators. FWIW I went with the double letter, because I don’t think “Speaker’s” is part of the definition.

Agree with you , I went with double letter first then had doubts and changed only to go back to double letter finally!

I agree. Speaker’s doesn’t fit with the definition so can really only be interpreter as a homophone indicator. Say, however, can be read as “for example”, which is needed for the DBE.
