DIAS must have affected your 1a too? (btw were you thinking of DAIS?)
I'm not seeing why the actual answer is "Speaker's platform", though.

Dais. My low level slydexia kicking in again. I got 1a and then went back to 2d. But the misdirection hung around. A bit like ghost information on an old hard drive.

minno :)
You've reminded me of the agnostic dyslexic insomniac who lay awake at night wondering whether there was a dog...

Slysdexia, that is. Platform equals dock, jetty, etc homophone.

chrise -I spent too long being hung up on DIAZ(/S)/DAIS too.
‘Speaker’s’ indicates a homophone.

Hi Chrise

Think of what both Cameron and Hague are, and the answer is a homonym of that word

Thanks birder. I have the answer, but wouldn't equate it with "platform".

I thought David Cameron might be referred to as "Dai" in Wales, but not Hague, unfortunately!

Hi everyone

Well once again I have surprised myself by finishing without recourse to the Forum.
I started at 2.30 after the quick crossword and the quick cryptic over lunch and had finished by 5.30pm after a couple of breaks for chores, leaving me time now to go back out into the garden and prune my Spirea Bridal Wreath.

Of course I hadn't heard of a couple of words or people like 26ac and 14d. I'm also not sure of my parsing of some - 10ac (oh just seen it), 3d (where does the pate come in?), 11d (is it a drug? I thought it was a herb) and 25d (I can't see the letters from overseas). But I did enjoy some of the other clues enormously and 8d made me laugh out loud. I couldn't see where the additive addictive came into the long one until I read it again.

My FOI 17ac, my LOI 21d and my CODs 8d and 23d, but there were a number of other contenders.

Can anyone enlighten me to the German context in this clue? ????? was a Belgian, and he was a cyclist, not a car racer. Or have I completely lost the plot here?

Note by Admin - Name removed as it was the answer to a clue and this is an prize crossword.
