Good day everyone. Well, almost a write n today. Some quite easy clues in my view, usuals - hidden, long anagrams, primarily, rhyming pair, no spooner. Some are questionable - 1d for example, not sure I follow it.

No clue leaps out at me for a COD, but I'll opt for 16d.

I suggest it's on the easy side today.

Hi Yevrah. I agree. 1d is clear, I think. Définition is last 4. Parses 5 1 2

Finished it quicker than recent ones but still wondering how to parse 13a River creature getting closer in Cockney’s game (5). Maybe my answer is wrong - I am assuming the definition is "river creature"?

Steve, I think it’s “closer” as in how you might describe the weather, but as a Cockney would say it…

…sorry, ignore that, I didn’t see the “game”. It’s as in a a child’s game when looking for something hidden.

Not golfing this morning, so I did this. I don't think I'll bother in future - not to my taste at all. Very loose. What's going on in 1a, 1d, 2d, 17a, 15d?
Why "river" in 12a? Lots aren't.

Ah Chris, OK I'll bite. For 1d see my comment @2. 1a definition is last word parses 1 1 4 letter word for prize (verb). 2d double definition. 17a definition last three words parses 4 (formal) 5 Esther short 4 (footwear). 15d definition last 4 words, parses 4 (punch) 1 1 3 (personal). Hope my golf goes as well tomorrow as this Everyman.
Ps anyone on the app know what gives? Will codeword and sudoku be in the main Guardian app in future? And will the tick system transfer? Hope so.

Thanks jono @4 and @5. I can see what you mean at @4, although "game" is then rather odd; I can't think of a "game" (played or shot at!) though. I am obviously missing a penny dropping 🙂
