A chocolate snack I've not encountered, a play I've not heard of, a songwriter from before even my time, a couple of write-in place names, and several clunky clues, including the alliterative ones IMHO. This Everyman was not to my taste and, even after finishing it, I still feel grumpy enough to type this out. COD 5d, for wringing a smile out of me.

Unlike @fitzrover I really enjoyed this one and finished it quickly over my morning coffee too. I guess I had the GK so it slotted in quite easily - especially as I recognised the alliteration grid before I started and knew what to look for. The chocolate used to be one of my favourites (until I had to switch to GF) and I do miss them, so 9 made me smile ruefully. My husband also used to teach musical theatre so that helped too! Yesterday was another story and I am about to return to it - I will not be beaten!!

Any hints on the parsing of 23a?
The answer can be guessed from the crossers and the definition but the parsing escapes me.

Enjoyed this one, especially the fry and damage clue. As I was wearing my oyster coloured pair for 8 across that was easy…not sure of why second part of 16a means anxious ? Had to google the theatre piece as not a theatre goer….

@tonystock

If someone H******* to say something, they would have been anxious to say it ( I think ! )

Thanks Jazzgirl,
Those single letter clues always seem a bit of a weak cop out to me.

It's happened again! Nobody mentions the one clue I couldn't get - 14A.
