I am probably being dim but why is the definition of 10 the last five words? They don’t seem to me to have anything to do with the answer.

Chambers define the answer to 10 as “So common or frequent as to seem the rule” (informal)

Thank you. That didn’t come up on the dictionaries I consulted online but makes sense and is no more obscure than the rest of this grid!

Well that was/is difficult - got most of it in the end but completely stumped by 5d and a few new words for me. Can't parse 26d either.
FOI was 9 which I got wrong as a type of nose which is also there.
Help with 5d + 26d please.
