No, this was new to me, and I was surprised when I eventually found it. Thank you

Now to sort out the names, which I know, but not quite sure what is required.

All finished but have no idea of the wordplay for 5d. reverse calculated the word change in the clue and still can't parse despite considering the numerous meanings of the altered word

it’s the ‘essential’ letters of the last four words

All done, but slightly unsure about the final step.

I've removed two consecutive letters from a grid entry and used them to fulfil one character, but another character is less bereft than I'd like - and I see no way to make them properly bereft.

Have I missed something?

Happy New Year to all the Forum!

Alas didn't get the Sat paper so will have to wait until next weekend to get back on track.

And have only just sent off 4795 - a very enjoyable puzzle. Unlike the thematic film involved (as others have commented), though slush is appropriate at Christmas.

I ended up with a character where each of his first and second names is bereft of one letter. I suppose, taking those letters, together, as representing the second 19 letter message, he has been 'bereft' of exactly what he lost in the film.
