I was surprised to see several people say they found this difficult, because to me most of it was astonishingly easy, though I did find difficulty with some clues, mostly ones for which others have indicated difficulty too. However, there is just one clue left that I absolutely can't do at all, and it doesn't seem to have been considered all that difficult by most other people, so maybe I'm being blind to the blindingly obvious (an experience I frequently have). It's 25a. Any gentle hints, anyone?

25 is a reverse anagram (?) for a sweet dish of meringue and strawberries

I still am not sure. If removing the S is the answer and a safe environment is also the definition, not much of a wordplay. Can't say double definition as it is the same definition! Not that I have the answer....

Or maybe it is 2 different definitions after all. I really don't know.....

Snowwhite, if you are still around, removing a letter from a word in the clue gives you a definition of the word which is the solution. The other part of the clue gives a definition of another meaning of the same word. It is a double definition of sorts, but with one of the definitions being buried in a word play, rather than given directly.

I didn’t get very far with this on my own but after careful consideration of all the helpful hints above, went to bed with it half filled.
