Am I supposed to see something extra on the outer edges?

Read round the edges/borders.
Referring back to 6d I was aware of the other word for ballads ,still think it is a poor clue .
I have no problem with 2d but can understand why there are comments about it.

Well, that was a struggle. Came to the forum with only 4 solved.

Some great clues.

I was late getting 15 and 17 which slowed me down.
I think I’ve parsed all but 9a.
And not sure why Picked up is necessary in 17?

20 is my COD, largely for the delayed gratification as I was halfway there for a long time but in the end it was my LOI.

I couldn’t find the Nina.

"Pork pies" is rhyming slang in 9a.
17 "Picked up" is the homophone indicator - the spellings are different.
Do persevere with the NINA - it's worth it!

I have spotted only four Ninas. Are there more.?
