I've looked at the 17 and can't see a gimmick. What am I missing?

A good thing you noticed. It would be a shame if Picaroon achieved this brilliant feat of setting and hardly anyone saw it.

Am I the only person who saw the edge emerging and found a boxer and thought sport - not for me , I'm not going to enjoy this ? Turned out quite a pretty one though!

Brilliantly spotted Jono, I always find Picaroon particularly tricky, this one took over 2 hours, but what a satisfying solve.

Finally LOI 22d. Very clever clueing for the last letter. Took me ages to see it. 22a also had me fooled because of the street reference and I guess because I didn't know the word. In fact never heard of 14a or 22a.

COD I think would be either of the 22s for giving me such a hard time. Just as well being in Italy at the moment I was granted an extra hour to get going.

Yes, though I've never seen it as a plural before - no reason why it shouldn't be, though.
