Good day everyone. Very enjoyable Everyman today. All the usuals I note except for a spoonerism, a good rhyming pair.

I did get 3d but not sure of 5d. T-R-E ?

A lot of fun clues such as 14a and 5d.

Have a good day.

I've actually just read (do you still say "read" if it was an audiobook?) Why People Believe Weird Things by the founder of 1d - US spelling of course 😉

Hi Yevrah,

5d - Is a homophone of word meaning "cast" as in 'hurl' or 'fling" that, spelt differently, means "fit" as in a "spasm".

Thanks for the 5d. Thought it would be that. Of course.

5d caused me a problem too - never seen it in the singular before.
Favourite 7d.

I’m a fan of US spelling, it makes a lot more sense, although naturally GB spelling is more familiar to me. Also, US spelling is exploited sometimes by cryptic clues. I remember being really pleased when I first came across one like that, although I don’t remember the clue.

I felt a lot were "write ins" today, but everything parsed well.

I agree with Chris on 5d and 7d

I agree that this was mostly easy but I can't get 8d. Nobody else seemed to have a problem so I must be missing something obvious. I have _E_O_D/_O_P_R_, any hints?
Thanks
minty

Minty, your crossers are correct. It’s an anagram with a subtraction… and given that you probably don’t have a rhyming pair yet…

Anagrams of first 3 words minus one letter.
