Prospero@50, when you type a response to a message, to the right of the Your Message text box see where it says “Code Tags” … that tells you how to code italics, bold and underline

Congratulations, Jazzgirl! well done, Pendragon! I’m prepared to bet a pound against a squeezed orange that you both understood the hints given on here only after you spotted the material in the grid.

Jack, you are so right. All the hints on this thread were as cryptic as the puzzle itself and I had no idea what I was looking for.
I put the notepad away and did other things. After a while I decided to stare at the grid one more time and it was like a bolt from the blue......Boom !
After the change, It was clear I had made one error 27a but the last letter was correct at 27d, so it made no difference
Thanks for the congrats which I don't deserve.

Try square bracket-i-close bracket yes bracket-forward slash-i-close bracket

That is, the text does not go inside the square brackets

Again, thanks, but I found the instructions misleading. Someone mentioned the unusual grid, and I noticed six arrows there, and so tried to make two serpentine words around these. I also assumed, as changing two words created six new ones each, that it had to be the two nine-letter words that had to be switched, as they had five down lights, giving six new words each. And I know what errant means, but it just didn't seem relevant. The problem is like those magic eye tricks of a few centuries ago. If you look for the answer and think deeply, logically and intelligently, you can't find it. Just relax, let your eyes go out of focus and feel the force. I have to say I usually complete these in much less time than this one. And I usually feel less like totally giving up.

I Jazz, I keep all my old print outs, so I see this was No. 241 by Jack. Enjoy!
