Malone , actually, this puzzle was a bit like Doc's speccie, apart from the omitted letters.
The next Genius may not be as easy :-;

Jazzgirl, the Genius puzzles seem to vary a lot- some I like, some I don't.

That felt like a bit of a skoosh, particularly after the hours of staring at the IQ grid. 35 minutes, tops.

Oh dear,....all you braggadocios who say they can finish the whole thing in x number of minutes !
I will not be commenting or even opening the next Genius thread. 😓

Unreserved apology, Jazzgirl. If it’s any consolation, I timed myself on the Listener and the IQ using a calendar rather than a watch….

I (71, if you must know) have been doing these crosswords – correctly – for years, often with help from this esteemed site. And, yes, the clues are pretty easy, but the instruction is most confusing. If you S* E* W*, which ones are they? Why are they E*? And why should there be "additional words" rather than ones already filling up the grid? Are they diagonal or snake-like words? Pah!

pendragon - if your S*E*W* is code for the superfluous letters, it looks like you have the right instruction. The two extra words are E* because they are in the wrong place. Switch them round and you get 12 new words.

Thanks, Prospero. I had worked that out, more or less, but nothing seems wrong. Time for another look and think.
