I thought this was one of the better Everymans of recent weeks. Everything there we’ve come to expect and even the Spoonerism and Primarily clues worked well. My only quiddity is the superfluous ellipses!

i didn't like 10d (clumsy) or 16d (over wordy for a cryptic definition, unless i'm missing something)

Both OK for me. 16d is a double definition. This one didn't feel like the usual Everyman to me, almost as though it was a different setter.

i only see one definition in 16
the anagram fodder in 10 includes 3 letters that are unchanged in the solution, hence "clumsy"

Good day all. Enjoyed it a lot. COD for me is 1a though did not get it for some time, but the hidden crosser is a good one. Also enjoyed 13a because the second word might stump some of you unless you know the sport. Talking of stumps, enjoyed 25a as well. (Even more so enjoyed the hat trick COYS). Best wishes for a sunny day.

16 is definitely a dd. Two different meanings of the first four letters…
Agree, Chris, re the anagram in 10, though I hadn’t spotted it before.

Hi Chris,

I read 16d as 1. having no stars (out of 5) in its bad review and 2. having no star actors due to the low budget.

Chrise. I think I see two definitions in 16d. Low budget movie will lack some ... and a review will give no ... ?

thanks both. not convinced you would describe a poor review with that word - you would say "no ....."

I was impressed with the seemingly higher quality of clues this week.but cannot figure why the ellipses are there. Maybe it will be explained on the blog next week.
I thought all the clues parsed well
