Ah! That makes sense. I was trying to take letters away from one of the words in the clue. I also didn't think of range as a verb. Thanks geeker, much appreciated.

I enjoyed this a lot and found it full of clever witty clues. I'd disagree that Everyman is getting as difficult as the Prize, which I can hardly ever complete. However, when I finally parsed 1d, I did think no, that was too indirect and difficult for an Everyman.
