thanks davel
my problem with 16 is the completely superfluous (and incorrect?) "grand".

Yes not too difficult but took a while nonetheless. 9a is a good misdirection. COD. 25a agreed not a duck.

I’ve never been to 16, don’t know if it was grand but I’m pretty sure it isn’t now! Seems superfluous to me too on a second look.

I am stuck. Surprise, surprise.

I’ve got. 4a & 24a.

I’ve got 1d, 5d, 15d, 17d.

No idea what I’m doing with the other clues. All gibberish.

What does “EVERYMAN” in a clue mean?

Any tips from experienced solvers?

druh6sm. 20a is an anagram, indicated by lunatic. Definition is the last 5 words of the clue. 13a is a hidden, definition is the last word of the clue. 1a parses as 2,4. Does that help a bit?

Everyman (the setter) sometimes referred to as I'm (I am)

I'm inclined to agree with Loubylou re the definition of 10d. I feel there should be a 'someone' after hurting, as hurting by itself indicates a feeling, whereas the answer is an action; something that you do which may cause hurt.

I enjoyed the rhyming pair, particularly the spoonerism (and I normally hate those!)

Biffed 8a without seeing the anagram, so thanks to those who enlightened me on that.

Struggled with 10d (for reasons explained above) 4a and 9a (again, thanks to those who explained the '19') but other than those, found this week easier than usual.

“Ran a mad ship as” for 20a?

I don’t understand “2,4”…

13 a makes sense!
