Did you get a chance to see this game Geeker? I was so pleased with myself as I was actually able to spot the "mate in 3" which is a rarity indeed for me - however simple.

Brendan, I played through the chess.com replay of the game (in one of their wrapup column posts) and was really impressed.
But I went through it at "real-time" speed, have been too busy at work and didn't ponder it much.

It was a heck of a game, though. Trouble is, this week had a lot of chess.com SCC matches and there was an abundance of riches. MVL's matches have been mind-blowing and the So-Firouzja clash, which went down to an Armageddon game, was exceptional.

Would I be out of order if I asked for a couple of links to one of the MVL games and the So - Firouzja one?

Sorry Geeker, I shouldn't have asked plus I've just found the So Firousja one on YouTube:-)

The So-Firouzja wrapup is at

https://www.chess.com/news/view/2023-speed-chess-championship-qf-so-firouzja

I strongly recommend the cited Armageddon game with "brilliant Knight sacrifice"!

Not very terse, but all of the So-Firouzja games, plus the broadcast, are at

https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments/speed-chess-championship-2023-qf-1/1/1/4

The Armageddon game (final one given under 1+1, though it had a longer time control) was funny: So blundered a Pawn for nothing right out of the opening, but kept his cool and won with the N sac.

Friday's MVL-Nihal Sarin match wrapup is in:

https://www.chess.com/news/view/2023-speed-chess-championship-qf-carlsen-nepomniachtchi-vachier-lagrave-nihal

The whole match is at

MVL is a fearsome blitz player. He generally goes for complications and executes many incredible tactical sequences.

Chess.com Speed Chess Championship:

Carlsen crushed So in semifinal #1 yesterday, Nakamura-MVL in semi #2 today.

Funny factoid: the SCCC has been held every year since 2016. There have been only 4 distinct finalists, and those exact players make up this year's semifinal matches. Surprising.

Hey Geeker, did you see the final? Some classic chess and commentary to boot:-)

Brendan, the final was really exciting. I watched much of it, but only on/off because I was doing some work at the same time.

MC jumped out to a 2-point lead but then played some really horrible games including a Q hang mouse slip and Nakamura got the upper hand.

It went into the bullet segment tied. Bullet is too fast for me to follow, but the commentators did a good job. In the last few games the "evaluation bar" had some violent swings to say the least.

In today's news, the notorious Hans suffered an OTB beatdown at the hands of a 13 year old American IM (who is apparently being trained in some fashion by Nakamura, see second video). Mr. Woodward played remarkably well!
