Hmm....Great. Not sure I've seen that particular combo used for great before. But hey ho no problem. Very jealous of everyone talking about the sunshine. I'm in S. Italy and it is grey and quite cold.

Rocky, you have to think of the second letter in the "great" abbr. as a roman numeral.

All done. One or two I'm still working out how to parse but overall I found this easier than usual. As always I was helped by the hints.

I think it's the word Great that is different Brendan. But I'm being a bit of a pedant because it fooled me if I'm honest.

"the best" would be closer than "great".

No Rocky, the mistake was mine - I misread your question (an all too frequent occurrence for me lately) and wrongly thought your problem was with the parsing rather than the definition.

I meant the definition of the 2 letter abbr. equating to "great".

Well I'm back. I made some progress, but still have some to do, mainly in bottom right. Some hints for 15d and 22ac would help. I don't understand 14ac and I'm not sure what the "game" is in 13ac.

Rocky, I'm so sorry you are missing all this sun. It's been lovely here all day. It hasn't helped my brain though. I'll get the washing in, have a glass of wine and see if inspiration strikes.
