Cockie - the info about the lines and extra clues gives you all the letters from the 9 deleted clues apart from one. You have zero information about this answer and one missing letter. All you can do is 'see what fits'.

Neither a definition nor wordplay to help you. Just a trawl through the brb or stick it in an electronic search and see what pops up. Either way, most unsatisfactory in my view.

Can I get help with parsing Bright patch from refined laser energy in glass. (10) Looks like partial anagram but not seeing it, after long stare.

It's an anagram of LASER E(nergy) inside a 4-letter word for a piece of glass.

Thanks, that's what I thought! Maybe 'piece of' glass will help me.

This is infuriating! I have (i think) everything other than the paintbrush bit. I have lines all over the place but the preamble is less than clear as to which lines to show - i.e. do you indicate why she was ducking under the table? I know it says what did the GRID look like in the end, but surely indicating how she drew it is intrinsic to the understanding of the construction of a SINGLE line?

Gitto - think any sensible interpretation of the lines will be marked correct and don’t think you would be marked wrong for providing more lines rather than less

In terms of the paintbrush there aren’t many options to cover three answers in two columns

I am finished now. But just confused by all the posts about an unchecked cell as every cell seems to be covered by one clue or another.

Lumen - Difficult to respond without giving stuff away but where you have drawn the three lines covering 5 six letter words, what clue covers the last letter of the third unclued entry?

I thought this one was much more gentle than it first appeared - which was a relief! I am however a little nervous about Mrs A's reaction to the square of nine. "That old chestnut!", she says, "Slope the lines a bit and...". This seems to imply that the lines in the square of nine are not sloped, but I don't see how that can be the case! Have a missed something obvious?

That niggle apart I thought it was an excellent puzzle and had no particular issue with the controversial unch as there isn't really anything else it could be. Perhaps a few words at the very end of the preamble went missing. Thank you very much Mr and Mrs A.

I don't think you've missed anything Kitsune. Some of the lines for the 9 cells are sloped as you say, although arguably in a fundamentally different way to Mrs A's lines,
