All original answers done and entered, except "lower section in Roman block for plants" - I have an answer, but no idea about its wordplay.

For the lines, I can easily see where the hangover cures go, but no other results. In fact, I'm not totally clear whether the answers to the first batch of clues are actually solutions to be ended in the grid as normal answers, or are they straddling columns/rows?

Thanks

There's no connection between the two, gitto - the preamble tells us that the 'lines' clues/answers are 'in order of mention', so the first one must be ''That old chestnut'' ('nine cells... four straight lines...').

A Latin block/building with s(ection) moved down gives 'plants', dylan.

Thanks drxx.

Another looming problem for me is that no word seems to fit with what I have so far in the 9-letter answer in Row 7. Is it in Chambers?

It's in Chambers as a noun (6-2) and the plural has 's' on the end if you try Wordwizard - I've entered the alternative version Quinapulus gives.

OK - now a bit ahead of myself - I've sussed the 9-letter square answer and its clue - now trying to follow what Mrs Arcadia did next - but still got a messy incomplete grid with several refractory clashes.

Thanks again, drxx. I initially pout the S in the wrong place, causing more despair, but then I realised.

Solved the first clue and therefore got the start point (i.e. block of 9 letters) . However, although I have all the answers to the "traced by lines" clues in the grid, I haven't got a scooby as to what to do = and where does the shading come into play? I know the 9 clues that have been deleted, the 5 six letter words and where they fit, and that's about it.

All of the answers the wife has delineated are not clued - the highlighted words have been clued (''three of your words'').
