A nice puzzle, and my first completed for several weeks, but I'm not sure how the final layout of the clashes, and their replacement, is an "approximate representation of the theme". Looks like a random scatter diagram to me - or is it the symbol in each one that is the representation?

I really enjoyed this one. The theme revealed itself in steps after finding the first two. Others appeared fairly regularly thereafter. I’m ashamed I didn’t get the third grid one sooner. And the final one I had was the fifth, which was quite a tough one. I found a lot of the clues resisted solving initially which was very satisfying. I particularly enjoyed 13d, both the wordplay and the play on the definition. Thank you indeed to Nutmeg for one of my favourites to date.

Acornz, could you help me understand what you found egregious about the puzzle. The particular item was clearly signposted in the grid. Was it just the approximate representation, perhaps?

I have filled the grid, apart from 28 down, which I cannot parse. If I am reading the clue correctly, it consists of a two-word definition followed by a cryptic indication comprising a two-letter abbreviation for drill within a three-letter word for a layer of bricks. I cannot see how the three letters I have could indicate a layer of bricks.

0pt0, don't forget the layer of bricks is 'up'. It's in chambers.

as well as solving the ne corner, which still eludes me, the one i cannot even begin to parse is the sausage of kiwi one - im sure as with most of these it will be something of a d'oh moment!

andyp - re 22a, think of an informal word for "I'm off" and then look in the BRB for additional definitions.

Will37 - thanks, a big d'oh moment - if in doubt with parsing, look at brb!

In 13d, I see the definition but I haven't parsed the wordplay that Useby enjoyed. Could someone give a hint( I know the answer)?
