Alvin, glad I could help. I'd already done the puzzle, but the details (numbers of letters, and any you already had) would have made it easier for others.

Second word is a 9 letter anagram of "net" & "mad men"
First word is a synonym for support
Overall is something the US Gun Lobby harps on about

I used to scan it as a pdf, and email it.
I gave up in the end, too many to pull out of the hat, like the the National lottery millions to one chance………!

Try grabbing ambassador by balls initially - nothing better (3,4)

I have an answer but cannot parse it, which makes be think I'm way off with my answer.
