Jono, I think the second 'about' in 17d refers to the meaning of the first two letters, which are then reversed by 'uprising'. I agree it's convoluted, but I think it just about works. Of course, its position is at the end of the clue since everything has been reversed by the first 'about'.

I agree with you about 'wrong'. The meaning of the whole clue is the opposite of 'austere', i.e., I think 'what is shown' refers to the answer itself.

I disagree that 8d is not a poem. It is akin to the verse dramas that T.S. Eliot wrote, a combination of the two genres.

After spending this morning wading my way through yesterday's Prize, I expected as usual to knock off the Everyman in an hour or so.

Wrong. Stuck on 1a and 5d. Is the third letter of 5d a p? Because that's what I have and yet the only joint I can think of has nothing to do with meat.

Rocky, your P is wrong, I'm afraid. Think of what a butcher gives you.

Maybe you, or someone can help me with 3d. My last and it's often a 4 letter answer.

Also, as to 1a, look carefully at the clue's ending.

Philo, did you mean 4d as the four-letter clue and is it still a problem? If it helps, the poet is not English, but still very famous, and the chips in the pot are not food.

Thanks Rainman. Yes, I did mean 4d and thanks for the help.

But I still can't see it. I have A-T-, is this right?

Thanks chrise

I had wondered about that sort of chips, but after your nudge the phrase "up the ----" smacked me round the chops.

Good afternoon, could someone help with the parsing of 13A, I have an answer which fits and I'm happy with, just can't quite work out why. Thanks.
