Good fun I thought, perhaps on the easier side. 9a and 4d held out the longest in terms of parsing and 22d was last one in as even with the crossers so many words fit there. A couple of nice single word anagrams.

Bemused by 19A. Can anyone explain ... or is this simply an example of the Grauniad misplacing half of the clue when posting it online? Haven't had one of them for a while!

Phil, I parsed it as 7 letter word for missing, less one letter (not good) then one letter for small

I can’t parse 19a either. Apart from that, a very satisfying puzzle.

Thanks, Jono. I suppose it's a clever bit of misdirection, then. But fumbling would have been better than missing.

19a - the expression is often used in sports when one misses an easy shot, though I've only ever heard it used in the passed tense, as in ".... he's ????ed it"

Spent more time failing to get 7d than the rest of the crossword. Had all the crossers in place and went through the alphabet but failed. Used a solver and thought yer what? Tough if you don't know it.

Definitely on the easy side I thought. I liked 4d, took me a while to parse though! And I was pleased to get 7d, but I needed all the crossers first! FOI 1d, LOI 23a (as jono said about 22d, so many words would fit).
Thanks to Everyman. Have a good Sunday everyone.
