I didn't have much difficulty in filling in the grid, but a lot were from definition alone, at least to start with, and some wordsearches also needed.

No idea of the parsings of 26a (which letters are the country house?) and 1d, and I don't see where the last three letters of 16d come from (must be "shown", but how?)

I've remembered the country house. Not a favourite type of clue - there's no way I could construct it from the wordplay. Contrast 5d, which mostly comes from the wordplay, though it does take the crossers to decided on the "hit".

Enjoy Paul so much much than Maskerade.
Struggled with 5 as the name change went under my radar.
FOI 10
COD Mrs Pauly liked 14 as she used to sing it as a fan.

Paulyg, I'm intrigued to know what song Mrs Pauly sang for 14?

Also I realise that I need to change my earlier post in that it is just the name of a stand in football ground, not the name of the ground itself

The song is called the answer to 5 and is why the stand is called what it is :-)

I don't know whether the compilers read these forums but I and others commented on how relatively easy the last two of Paul's puzzles were. Well he's making us eat our words here.

Can't parse 9, 4 even though I have the answer but I'm stuck in the East. Gentle help with 17,19 would be appreciated.

hi rocky
9,4 is an anagram
17,19 is an anagram after a 4 letter word for final wishes. difficult to say more without spoiling
