thanks quisling and lumen for explaining a cack-handed clue!

I agree a weak clue in an otherwise good crossword. Not even sure the definition works, but I am separated from my Chambers right now. I'm imagining lots of strangled dogs.

I agree with Lumen, nice to have no imprints or extra letters.
My breakthrough this morning was deciding to put the cube alongside the rag, which was my first entry on the RHS.
I liked the endgame too.

Sort of getting there with most of the grid filled in. Can’t see the central column relevance . Have the 11 yellow letters but they don’t give anything that I can see !
Help please also with Sexual healing’s ending backed by a recorder in studio (5)
I think it should be G?H?? With the g from end of healing.

Letters in the 6-letter central column span each of two entries in LHS and RHS, forming 6 11-letter words. You just need to get the ones on the RHS in the right places, which I didn't first time round!

Re Sexual healing clue, your H is wrong. Recorder in studio is 3 letters.

Sorry, sounds like you have the central column word? If so, just play the game for each of the four quadrants in the grid to get to the (part- or full-) missing words.

That makes sense . I too have the RHS in the wrong places but have just spotted an easy 11 letter word ! Will go from there. Thanks for the nudge . I had finished the azed so went back to yesterday’s inquisitor .

Just wanted to ask if the unchecked entries have definite answers.

One of them I have as a term from aromatic chemistry.
The other I have might be cryptically clued as "Sound of Mass"

If they are lower and upper right, respectively, they sound correct. I am sure they are intended to be unique answers, and they may be the only ones in Chambers, though not necessarily in the “thematic” dictionary
