After 45 mins had all bar 6a and 8d -and gave up 15 mins later having failed to get either. I've looked up the answers and would never have got either . How is that when you watch one of the Times superstar solvers solve the Times crossword live, even if they get stuck on a couple they never never fail to get them within a couple of minutes?

Hello everyone. Was spoiled by last week's breeze! Thanks for the hint for 2.

I can't get 9 or 22. For 9 I have a?o? p?I?t?

For 22. ?e?s

Somehow these should be obvious but they're not!

Thanks

Hi catcharmer
You've gone for the wrong one of the homophone pair in 1d, I suspect.
22 is the stuff in a wine bottle that you wouldn't want to drink.

I've only ever encountered 22d in crosswordland.
9a I can brag of knowing lots of different types of beers but that was not what was being looked for here.

Hi chrise

Neither rings a bell, I'm afraid.

9a should start with M rather than A. The "low" and "temperature" are not connected.

Remember that french has (2) plural forms for "the"... that should help with the wordplay for 22D... I hadn't heard of the word either but worked out the wordplay and checked the definition.

ok. Got 9 now, and also 22. Never heard of 22 either. And was looking for the wrong (usual) beginning for Everyman!

Maybe there is only 1 plural form of "the" in French and I am confusing what I thought was the other one for one from Spanish. Languages were never my forte (although that is French innit?)

I enjoyed this but I thought a lot of the clues were familiar - and I only do this crossword. 16a, 17a, 20a, 25a and 13d all rang bells.
Thanks for the tip on 23a, my LOI.
