Nicely done although all over a bit too quickly.

33a also holding me up. Can't see the wordplay. Be good if someone could give a hint later in the weekend.

Grid filled, and general theme understood, but I’m still struggling to get the instruction.
I don’t understand at all 20ac, and the parsing of 19 ac is not clear either.
Hints please, when appropriate!

Dylan, 20ac is hidden.
I also can't parse 19ac and there appears to be an additional letter I in 33ac unaccounted for.

19ac is a reversal followed by a two-letter abbreviation (which surprised me).

agree about 33ac

I am not sure how to follow the instruction as concerns the third word. I can see several rather clumsy ways of achieving this but as the rest is straightforward this is odd.

I think 33a is OK - a longer word with a bit removed, and then the desired extra letter to omit.

As ever, one only has to post some problem before seeing how to resolve it. I now see how to do that bit of highlighting.

I wasn't aware of one of the five unclued answers but I'm not going to quibble, maybe there is a version that I'm not aware of. Thoroughly enjoyable and made me chuckle - much needed at the moment.

On the basis that a synonym is used for one of the items to highlight I have now finished this. I have to admit though, that the parsing of 2,12,33 ac and 4 down is currently baffling me. Pity he had to diet on a Thursday.

33 across: the knot to be removed is a verb (3 letters), not the abbreviation KN which I thought it was for some time. The removal gives the answer with an extra letter.
